Like football is my favorite sport and i wanna know some good arguments for when i play rugby because they always think football players are pu$$y's for wearing padding....help me out with like the history of the equipment and the purpose.....i wonder the purpose because rugby is simular and they get hit hard too.................i personally think its because of
1. the angle of the tackles and
2. the history of when football first came about in north america which was like rugby but more violent so they added equipment.

American Football was created by an Army General who thought Rugby was for dullards.

He wanted a sport that required strategy as well as skill.

The sport became so aggressive, that some padding had to be added to protect the players.

Ultimately, the use of feet in Football became too dangerous.

Old, retired, football players became managers, directors, and executives in the business and the infra structure changed as well as the rules.
Passing evolved.
More protection was added.
Better pay opportunities and the necessity of graduating from a University.

Do professional rugby players have to graduate from college?

It is true...padding has been added because of the impact.
Hitting and tackling are completely different.

I played rugby in College and loved it. Football players adapt to rugby very well...but Rugby players don't adapt to football...
it's too hard, too aggressive, too regimented.

i coach a semi pro football team...we have many former rugby players...
most of them suffer the first game and quit...
those that stick around begin to learn and develop new skills and eventually become decent enough football players...

Your friends are morons. The sheer force of another 100+ pound man crushing down on you could kill you if they hit you right. It only takes 7 pound of pressure to break your collar bone, in fact, in ancient times, people used to be killed when they played it. All every human is is just animated meat wrapped around bone, we're not bloody invincible. Without your helmet on, your neck could be broken, your teeth could be ruined, your face could possibly be destroyed. There are so many possibilities of injury without proper protection it is ridiculous

Rugby players do NOT run at the speed of NFL players or their sizes. There are not many rugby players that can run 4.9 40's at 300 lb.s.

Also, Rugby has NEVER been the business that football is and was. The colleges and the NFL realized that they needed to protect their investments which is now a multi billion dollar venture. Your star players don't make you money if they are hurt.

Rugby players are very tough (and toothless) but if they were so much tougher they would make millions of dollars dominating in the NFL. Rugby players run at very slow speeds compared to some of the football players that have been track guys in the olympics.

I believe that the padding and equipment came about early. The reason was because of the deaths of people playing. The was a large group of people that wanted to vote to have football to become illegal. I can't remeber which president, but he was a fan and saved football. The compromise was better protection for the players.
