Look again hero. I've seen starters wearing the helmets with the green dot also. The reason you noticed the backups wearing them is because it's preseason (backups play more) and only one player on the field is allowed to wear a com device in their helmet. The DOT is to identify to the officials which player has the radio communications device in their helmet. Trust me before long some team is going to get busted for having more than one player on the field with the device at the same time.

Actually all of the QB's are wearing green dots, not just backups, and my intake of y that is is bcuz if a defensive player is going in for a big hit in the preseason and they see the green dot they shouldnt hit the person from the backside with a green dot on there head. I think it is just pre-season QB protection, nothing more.

I haven't noticed.
