How should I prepare myself for JV football?

I am thinking about playing JV football next year but I have never actually played in a football league, or ran real plays, or worn pads and a helmet. All I play is like backyard football with my friends. But I am pretty fast and I thought I would go out for football. I am about 5'6'' and weigh around 110-120. I am 14 years old. How should I prepare myself physically and mentally?

With pads on, football is completely different. I would imagine you going for a WR/SE position so the only thing I would suggest is to get good at running for periods of times and the plays and everything should be taught to you by the coach so don't worry about them

to be honest you really dont need to prepare yourself for jv football...jv is about learning, so you will learn how to play football and run plays and how to hit/take a hit, the coaches wont let you get hurt, so mentally dont worry bout it...also the helmet and shoulder pads and stuff will weigh u down, but u'll get used to it after awhile..my suggestion to u..if u want to actually play...and maybe even get a look on varsity...start lifting and running...try ankle weights while doing sprints and running up hills... as for lifting..do bench press, cleans, curls, squats, and dead lifts...they'll getcha prepared...but if ur looking to learn something and to just have fun..dont worry bout seriously lifting..i do recomend running tho.

well what you should first do is speak with the coach. he'll tell you everything you would need to know for football. who knows maybe you will make varsity and not JV. what position do you want to play? you should start hitting those weights bro. for the physical part you should jog for 10 min around your neighborhood then sprint for 5 min. then repeat untill you cant go anymore. the metal part starts showing up when you start playing dont worry about that right now. but seriously start talking to your coach ask him if theres a weight room in your school cuz theres one in mine. so just ask all the questions you need. go to the head coach not any other one

You'll get a lot of feedback, but I can tell you the most important thing is conditioning. RUN, RUN, RUN!. Being that you will be a first year player, the coaches are not really sure what they will do with you. The plays will come with time, work on your conditioning.

Make a statement the first day, and dont be afraid to hit one of your own teammates. You will have your share of disappointments, sore muscle days, and you may even surprise yourself. BUT, take the time this summer to get into football shape. RUN RUN RUN!!!

First, the coaches will choose a position for you. For the most part, you can try running a few sprints everyday and may start weight training. You don't want to over do it because you might not like the game or get cut. You should try your best and see what happens. A great work ethic helps out alot.

you should try and gain lean muscle mass because going in at that weight, you won't really be able to play much unless you're an all star. my HS football team is small and the lightest person that gets in at games is 135 pounds. mentally, just don't get intimidated and put your head in the game.
