| Which helmet- Riddell Revolution, Schutt DNA, or Schutt's helmet for next year, the Schutt Ion 4D? |
|
I have done research on how Revolutions can reduce concussions by up to 31%. I have just gotten a concussion 2 weeks ago and want some extra protection, considering I play Varsity HS football. I want to know which helmet I should get, why I should get it, and possible price tags. |

The revolution is an absolute joke. People get concussions in the supposed concussion proof helmet every day. Ever watch an NFL or college game? When a helmet falls off 90% of the time it's a Revo because players have to wear it larger because there is no flex at the jaw pad so it bobbles on there head and falls off. Not to mention it takes half a season to break it in then it鈥檚 at least somewhat comfortable. The dang thing is made of thick foam which is the same technology for the past 20 something years. Ever play on a hot day during 2 a days? Have you ever played when it鈥檚 cold during playoffs? Well if you're wearing the supposed concussion proof helmet your chances of getting a concussion have drastically gone up because foam gets like a Marshmallow when it's hot and is like a brick when it's cold. Not to mention the thing is uglier than sin. Have you seen that huge clip on the bottom and the goofy looking faceguards? Come on you seriously can鈥檛 be serious about buying it. Basically if you're buying a Revo you might as well pick up an 8-track because you buying yesterday The Schutt DNA or the new helmets like the ION and XP on the other hand doesn't use 20 year old foam it uses this material called skydex which doesn鈥檛 change shape with different weather conditions and is instantly comfortable when you put it on. I haven鈥檛 seen the ION or the XP in person but based on their site it looks pretty pimp. Check it out at schuttsports.com or google the product names. The bummer is they are not coming out till 2008 so this will have to be a next season thing but then again look how long we had to wait for the iPhone.. |

Revolution get the Revolution, it does help lower concussion and has the cool, high tech look to it. But yea they've done testing on it like you said and its the best helmet out there Revolution The Revolution is the only helmet that protect your jaw from a direct hit from the side of the helmet. Before you put another helmet on your head, see a specialist first to ensure your cleared to play. im sorry, but dont listen to them other guys. the dna or the ion 4d coming out are ur best bets. i wore the dna for my senior hs year and it was the best helmet i have ever tried on. everyone agreed who tried it on that it was much comfortable than the revolutions our school provided. and during the whole season i basically didnt shy away from contact as much, it was really the safest helmet i had ever wore. i was that comfortable with it. and look out for that ion 4d! go to schuttsports.com if u havent already! Evryone in my team thinks the rev is much better The Revolution is the only helmet with FACTS to back it up...testing has determined that it lowers the rick of a concussion, Schutt can't say this because they have no proof. Also look how many more pro/college guys wear Riddell over Schutt. Actually, the research study cited by Riddell states that the increased standoff of the Revo is the biggest reason for the reduction in concussions. The Schutt DNA helmet - mentioned previously in this thread - also has an increased standoff but was not included in the study, which was funded in part by Riddell. |
