Is this the worst ever year for American Sports?

It must be. In the MLB we have Barry Bonds, a known cheater and all-around low-life, taking away Hank Aaron's home run record. In the NBA, we have an official caught gambling and fixing games. In the NFL we have Pacman Jones shooting up strip clubs, Mike Vick killing puppies, and three-time Super Bowl "winner" Bill Bellicheck caught cheating with video cameras. To top it off, Marion Jones gets her gold medals stripped for cheating.

Is this the worst ever year for American Sports? Will things change after this? If so, how?

No, this is a fantastic year for American sports because this has been happening for years, if not decades, in professional sports, but recently the culture has finally begun to change where its not just "accepted" by everyone. And not just steroids, but criminal and antisocial behavior as well, like Pacman and Vick and Tank.

I hope it marks a watershed for the level of professionalism and ethical conduct that teams and fans hold their players to, and the players hold each other and themselves to. Of course its going to look bad at first as the worst of the dirt is swept out, but its healthy for all the sports and its going to improve the games for the next generations to enjoy.

edit: the guy above you? you mean the one above me? :) And yeah, 'innocent till proven guilty' is a legal right, it doesnt mean you're exempt from any disdain till you're convicted in a court of law. Legal standards of proof are much higher than common day standards of proof by design.

Barry wasnt crushing homers way before this. He was like 165 lbs with jerry curls, looking like Michael Jackson in "Bad". Then he started slowing down a little, and the next year comes back looking like he went for a suntan at Bruce Banner's tanning salon... There may not be enough evidence to send him to jail, but there's enough NOT to send him to Cooperstown.

If you want an example of someone who crushed homers the right way, look up a guy named Kirk Gibson, who did it for the Dodgers on a broken leg, not just a gimpy knee.

you left out marion jones in track and field. could be. i never thought about it before.

i guess we have gotten desensetized to controversy in sports and just roll with it. but it is pretty dang pathetic when you put it all together like you did. it sure as heck isnt the best year, is it?

oh sorry. you had marion in there.

Vick has nothing to do with sports. He played in the NFL, big deal, but his ordeal had nothing to do with sports in itself, nor did Pacman Jones.

Bonds is not a known cheater. He has never been proven guilty and in fact, the court had to extend their investigation because they haven't found anything. Innocent until proven guilty, right? He is not a low life by any means, how would you react if you were constantly bombarded by people accusing you of something that you "may or may not have done"? He takes his daughter to a game and she sits next to two guys imitating him taking steroids with a doctor. He can't escape anything and when he is upset about his teams performance or his own performance people get bent out of shape and say he is out of line and arrogant. His record breaking ball was put up for an online vote on what to do with it. What would you say to that?

Marion Jones had nothing to do with this year in sports, but for earlier this decade. She did cheat, but it isn't about recent events.

The NBA official was pretty bad as far as sports goes. That was one that many could not see coming and really sent many speculations to the integrity of the NBA.

Basically, a lot of MLB players take steroids. Officials bet on games. Not every sport is clean. And some incidents have nothing to do with sports.

We are not the only country with problems in our sports.

Things are going to get worse once the steroid investigation results become public. Be ready for your favorite player to be listed and the world of sports to fall flat on its face. Next stop is the college campus. Got to clean it from top to bottom.

barry bonds has NEVER been PROVEN a cheater. this is an innocent until PROVEN guilty country you f*cktard. I hate people who bash bonds. He was crackin home runs decades before this steroids epidemic. its easy to kick someone when they are down. Personally, i hope bonds signs with a new team and spends the next 5 years pushing that record way past 800. just so none of these f4gs who play now and ***** about him can't touch it. you can dispute barry all you want, but that record isnt a matter of opinion, its a matter of FACT!

Bellichick must be a racist, the way he stole some of those headlines from the Negroes. This is America for crissake- he should know better!
