Am I missing something? Why does it even matter?
I'm just trying to get an idea of where this obsession comes from. Does it have something to do with the negative political, social, and economic history of the Southern USA? Do people in the South feel they have something to prove to the rest of the country or something?
Or is it just extreme arrogance on the part of crazy sports fans? Which happens everywhere, I'll fully admit.
Serious answers only, please. (somehow I don't think that will happen, however) Mongo: If you re-read my question more closely you'll see that I fully admit arrogance happens with every team and every conference. Including OSU. That's sports for ya.
That wasn't my question, however. My question is about why many SEC fans feel compelled to rail against non-SEC conferences on a regular basis.

Big ten 8, SEC 6, in the last 5 years. I am a big ten fan, and enjoy watching SEC football, but I get sick of them bad mouthing the big ten. The big ten has a winning record in bowl games over the last 5 years. Why do they ignore this and think they are the greatest ever? If they were that much better, wouldn't they at least have a winning record?

Serious answers? Are you joking?
Look, I won't deny that many SEC fans (and USC fan, etc) are quite arrogant, and in your face.....but can you honestly say that your fellow OSU fans have been any better? I've answered more questions than I can count (with both my shoes off, no less) from arrogant, snide OSU fans. All the other big boys have taken their lumps...now OSU fans are suffering for running their mouths. Really, did you guys expect less after all the trash talking YOU"VE been doing?
Not hatin'...just askin.....
*well...my answer was everybody does it, chief...not just them. The only part I don't get is this whole SEC koom-bi-yah crap. Trying to ride on the coattails of other SEC teams...the teams in your conference are your rivals...that means that they are supposed to be your first and worst enemies...but it is obviously an extension of htat whole South will rise again, Confederacy mentality...them against the world. Plus...fottball and chewing tobacco is pretty much all they have. But, really....you can t single out anyone...in the few months I've been here...the trash has flown fromALL sides, pretty much non-stop......(well at least the USC guys have finally quieted down alittle...I guess that's something.) although its mostly from teh south, not all people who liek teh SEC are from the south, im from maine and all teh sports followers here have to agree taht the SEC is much better than the rest of the nation, even florida and georgia ACC teams are good, but not as good as SEC teams
its because of the athletism that comes from there, one of the strongest, glenn dorsey, also runs a 4.7 40 time, thats enough to chase down some running backs even in otehr conferences
i dont know why it matters to people from teh south, but it matters to me because i wanna see a close game for teh championship Because we are cool like that =) Well as expected, they are railing about how the Illini win shows a Buckeye weakness, instead of Illini strength, and Big 10 strength.
But Kentucky beating LSU shows how strong the SEC is, instead of how weak LSU is...
Strange how that works. SEC is no better than Big 10 or Big 12 or Pac 10. They need to get over it. because the sec is the toughtest conference in the land. LSU 2. Georgia 10. Tennesesee 25. florida 15. alabama 22. auburn 18.
every week you play a top 25 team almost SEC fans are proud of their conference. As all fans should be of whatever conference their team is in. There are good teams in all the conferences but in defense of SEC fans, I see more people downing the SEC than any other conference. So the better question may be why all the others hate the SEC so badly?
