Top 5 steals in the history of the NFL Draft? (I personally think Tom Brady has to be #1, he was a 6th rd pick

1) Tom Brady (Round 6) (Pick 199 overall)
2) Marc Bulger (Round 6) (Pick 168 overall)
3) Steve Smith (Round 3) (Pick 74 overall)
4) Rudi Johnson (Round 4) (Pick 100 overall)
5) Zach Thomas (Round 5) (Pick 154 overall)

definetly tom brady, and last years second to last pick marques colston the rest im unsure about

Joe Montana, 12th pick in the 3rd round of the 1979 draft.

in no order

Tom Brady (6th)
Kurt Warner (undrafted)
Rod Smith (undrafted)
Matt Hasselbeck (6th)
Mark Bugler (6th)
Zach Thomas (5th)
Steve Smith (3rd)
TO (3rd)

How about marcus colston in new orleans, he was a 7th round pick, but he as turned out to be a pretty darn good player

I only konw recent players so

1. Tom Brady 6th RD pick
2. Marques Colston 7th RD pick
3. Larry Foote 4th RD pick
4. T.J. Houshmandzadeh 7th RD pick
5. Mike Green 7th rd pick

Brett Favre

Zach Thomas

Bruschi

Wasn't Johnny Unitas drafted in the 26th round or something crazy?

#1 Unitas, the best QB ever and he was taken in the 9th round (2 rounds later than Brady)

#2 Shannon Sharpe, leads TE in receiving categories. 7th round

#3 Reggie White, taken in the supplemental draft and came to the NFL through USFL

#4 Chris Carter, also taken in the supplemental draft

#5 George Blanda, 12th rounder

Answering some comments below. It's true that there were 10 teams, a 7th rounder was about the 70-80th overall, but that means there were less football players and less positions to fill, about 30% compared to these days. So, we can say the round number was proportional to nowadays.

It's not the same being the 100th overall among 10 teams (10th pick made by a specific team) than 100th overall among 32 teams (3rd or 4th player picked by the specific team).

Reggie Bush is not the greatest draft steal of all-time yet. he had one, average season in his career, and you are saying that, and being picked second OVERALL, makes him better than Joe Montana in the third round.

1.) Joe Montana
2.) Tom Brady
3.) Brett Favre
4.) Jerry Rice
5.) Marc Bulger/ T.O./ Steve Smith

I know there are some older players from way back who were picked low and really performed (I think Roger Staubach was picked pretty low), but I can't think of all the names and rounds they were picked in.

1 - Joe Montana (#82)
2 - Tom Brady (#199)
3 - Mike Singletary (#38)
4 - Johnny Unitas (#102)
5 - Richard Dent (#203)
6 - John Stallworth (#82)
7 - Steve Smith (#74)
8 - Terrell Davis (#196)
9 - Roger Staubach (#129)
10 - Zach Thomas (#154)

OK I just want to say ENOUGH WITH THIS STUPID ROUND when it was what like 10 teams. Oh he went in a later round then Brady. Yeah look up his PICK number. OK had to Rant about stupid comments. Also UNDRAFTED wasn't a steal in the draft, heck then Willie Parker was a steal since he was undrafted.
Tom Brady
T.O.(say what you want about his actions he is one of the TOP WRs and to those who say about drops look at how many catchs he has and how many are thrown at him)
T.J. Houshmandzadeh
Shannon Sharpe
Joe Montana

Most GB fans will tell you Starr was picked in the 17th round. They don't mention the lower number of teams back then.

Starr was pick #200 to Tom Brady's #199.

By the skin of his teeth Starr gets #1.

(Saints fans, yes Colston. Unfortunately the QB position far out weighs the Wide Receiver position.)

I agree about morons talking rounds. Give us the position number.

1. Roosevelt Brown (# 321 by Giants 1953)
2. Johnny Unitas (# 102 by Steelers but was released then signed by the Colts 1955)
3. Tom Brady (# 199 by Patriots 2000)
4. Terrell Davis (# 196 by Broncos 1995)
5. Harold Carmichael (# 161 by Eagles 1971)

1) Reggie Bush
2) Joe Montanna
3) Tom Brady
4) Barry Sanders
5) L. Taylor
Steals in my eyes are any players that were not picked #1 overall! Who may,or did!,turn out better than the number 1 pick over all in their draft class!

****Smartass****
Sure I can, and I did! If the team who selected #1 overall passed him up in the draft, and he fell into some other team's hands, then it is a steal! In my eyes! Are you gonna sit there and say " the Texans passing up on Reggie Bush was not a Steal!!!! For the Saints? B/c he wasn't picked in the 5th or 7th round? See my point,on MY views on STEALS!!!!!
