I read an article about how they started using lights for Michigan high school football back in the 30s because college football was gaining popularity (and playing on Saturday's too), thus competing with high school contests. Perhaps this was the case everywhere, but I just don't know for sure鈥攐nly this documented account from Michigan.

I believe the first was in 1956 but I'm not sure where and why.. I know people used to line the fields with cars and use car headlights at one time... Good Question just not sure of the exact history.
