Who are the top 5 Greatest Quaterbacks in NFL history?

I say 1. Unitas 2. Favre 3. Marino 4. Montana 5. Elway

1. Brett Favre: The guy is on the verge of holding all major passing records and yet has only started 15 seasons compared to Marino's 17. He has one win shy Elway's record, but if you compare his years of winning (15) to Elway's (16, taking off the 1998 season, elways last season) Brett has 147 wins to 135 of Elways and will be the only Qb to havw 150+ wins. He's the only 3 time MVP and has taken his team to 2 superbowls and won one especially in the heavily brutal 90's NFC conference. Also, has never had a losing season as a starter aside from 2005 season. Now people will say he has all the INT's, but honestly who cares? The guy has had talent around him, but nothing comapred to what Montana, Young, Aikman, and Marino did (yes Marino did have talent, the Hall of Fame receiveind duo "The Mark Brothers") and not to mention hes jsut doing it trying to make plays instead of dumping it off and giving up on a play. Simply put the guy has done everything you want a QB to do: leadership, stats, wins, and taking his team to the top.

2. Joe Montana: Unquestionably the greatest clutch QB in the game. 4 Super Bowls and played them all flawlessly. Possibly the most accurate player ever in the history of the NFL. He could disect and carve up a defense that would even make Peyton Manning jealous.

3. Dan Marino: Completely rewrote the record books during his career. Although the non existent Superbowl ring on his finger burdens him, he never had much help outside the passing game with the Mark Brothers, you still cant count out the guy who is likely the greatest "passer" of all time with great mechanics and the quickiest release ever. Tied with Favre for 2nd most wins by a QB with 147, one shy of Elway.

4. Johnny Unitas: He was the standard for which the likes of Montana, Elway and Marino were judged by when they came into the league. Flawless mechanics, one of the winningest and greatest statistically passers of his time. Holds the record for most consecutive games with a TD pass (47). Has 3 Championships including SuperBowl 5 against the Cowboys in 1970.

5. John Elway: One of the strongest arms ever in the NFL. Holds the record for most ever regular season wins and most 4th quarter game winning drives. Is in the top 5 in most major passing records. Took the Broncos to 5 Superbowls, winning 2, although during a time in a very weak AFC conference. I would have him rated higher if he had better stats, although the TD to INT ratio isnt good (300-226). One of the most clutch QB's in NFL history.

Now i'm sure people could make great arguements for any other qaurterbacks based on other stats i probably missed, as they deserve it because all of these QB's are among the greatest of all time.

John Elway, Dan Marino, Steve Young, Jo Montana, Payton Manning,

That is a tough one but since everyone made fun of Payton Manning till last year for not winning the big one, and how some give Marino crap for never winning the big one I will base my picks on superbowl success.
1. Joe Montana
2. Terry Bradshaw
3. Troy Aikman
4. Roger Staubauch
5. John Elway

1- Joe Montana- so many rings
2- Tom Brady- also many rings
3- John Elway- 5 Superbowl appearances, 2 wins, and many records.
4-Fran Tarkenton- revolutionized the sport, 1st scrambling QB, Vick should thank him, without him Vick would be nothing.

1). montana

man, people ask this question at least once a week. I love football, but this is crazy. But anyways, I would have to say:

Montana
Young
Marino
Elway
Manning

staubach, unitas, marino, baugh, manning

Taking Super Bowls out of consideration:

1. Marino
2. Elway
3. Payton Manning
4. Unitas
5. Montana

Super Bowls in Consideration:

1. Montana
2. Staubach
3. Brady
4. Starr
5. Elway

montana- no doubt and for anyone who put marino ahead of him well they played in the superbowl and well the rest is history and if anyone said look at the team he had well their first superbowl their team wasnt very good,, montana found ways to win and was the best quarterback ever did he have the strongest arm? no, was he the best runner( although better runner early on his career no one remembers) did he throw 50 yard bombs not to often, but was he a general on the field throwing 10 15 yard passes into coverage and completing them with ease moving the chains for a decade oh yess ,,4 super bowls 3 mvps... after that well for anyone that said elway, well was the score 55 to 10 when montana demolished the broncos,,2- gotta go with a threeway tie between young, aikman and favre next followed by naimath, unitas and bradshaw..than elway and marino,, a ring would have put marino up with the first 3way tie...but he didnt so at the end of his career you can put manning there instead

If I had to pick 5 guys as a week in, week out starter in today's game, then here is my list:
1.) Dan Marino
2.) Peyton Manning
3.) Joe Montanna
4.) Warren Moon
5.) John Elway

montana, unitas, aikman, staubach, elway in no particular order
