I'm really trying to get into football and i've tried watching some games but i just don't get it. Can someone please explain some basic rules and plays?

There are two teams that run back and fourth across a field with a ball all the while hitting and kicking each other...

If someone tried to explain football to you it would sound crazy to you. How I got into football is by watching it, I also happen to watch a high scoring game too. Have someone who knows about football and is nice about explaining it to you when watching it. Trust me its a lot to learn. But have fun and some of those rules will sink in or maybe you just dont like football:-(!!!
Basically However its two teams that are trying to reach the end of the field and score a touchdown (6 points), then the kicker kicks a field goal (which is 1 point after a touchdown, 3 if he is just kicking it because they cant make it to the end zone). That's the basics.

well sports like football or rugby are weird and complicated to people who dont know anything about the game....first i gotta say watch more and more and more games then eventually you will get it....secondly get a guy friend or someone who knows and loves the game well and its willing to explain it to you because me trying to explain everything on the internet will be way too long and complicated.....and lastly read these link if you dont mind reading up

Football is just Chess for Big Guys

As a girl who LOVES football I will try to help you out.

First they toss a coin to determine who will go first. The winner of the coin toss can decide whether to kick or receive. Usually they receive so they have 1st opportunity to score. The kicking team kicks the ball and the receiving team receives the ball. Wherever the kicking team stops the receiving team is where they start trying to get 1st downs.

The basic goal is to move the ball a minimum of 10 yards to reach a 1st down. Each team gets 4 attempts to make the 10 yards. If they make the 1st down they get 4 more chances to make another 1st down and so on. Ultimately the team wants to get their ball into the endzone for a touchdown which equals 6 points. The team who scores a touchdown then gets to kick an extra point. If said team cant get into the endzone they can try kicking a fieldgoal which is worth 3 points.

Of course the other teams defense is trying to stop the team who has the ball from advancing. If the defense intercepts the ball or causes a fumble in which they recover the ball they get to try to score.
