FOOTBALL?!?! What do you think of the new NFL rule...yes I will explain it...?

A five-yard penalty will be assessed for spiking or throwing the ball after a play has ended, except for after a touchdown, the NFL announced on Thursday

I love this rule! I had when wide recievers get a first down then get up and spike the ball! Walk back to the huddle and run the next play! If I was making that kind of money every year to play football I would act like a true professional.

What do you think about the rule and why?

I agree. Its time to take the individuals out of the game and make it a team game again. Don't get me wrong its nice to have personalty's but there a time and a place for that. Make it a 10 yard. I love it too.

I like it.
It will make it easier to tell if a taunting call should be made or if they were just doing a personal celebration.

the only person that i have ever seen spike a ball after a first down was freddie mitchell on the 4th and 26th play against the packers in the playoffs and Jeff Garcia against the giants when he threw the ball at the guy on the side lines (which i LOVED AND WAS at the game)

BUT GO EAGLES

I actually remember when this would result in a 15 yard personal foul penalty.

They also used to call players for illegally moving towards the line of scrimmage at the snap of the ball, and hardly ever call that anymore either.

I agree it was tiresome to see a guy celebrate an 8 yard catch, but legislating morality is never as good as guys doing it anyway.

I blame ESPN. If a guy makes a great catch for a TD in the Super bowl and a guy makes a routine catch for a first-down in a pre-season game but does a celebratory dance, guess which on gets on sportscenter.

I like the rule, but they should apply it to endzone celebrations too. I'm tired of seeing T.O. and Chad Johnson looking like jackasses after they score a touchdown. Why can't they all be like Ladanian Tomlinson, hand the ball to the ref and jog to the sideline. You can celebrate there with your teammates.

umm, ive got mixed feelings
what if its a big 3rd down catch in the 4th quarter w/ ur team down 7?
i mean, they should make the rule "situation appropriate"
NFL players dont spike the ball after a 2 yard run, or a 7 yard catch.
i mean, if its a good play, then they should be able to celebrate.

how can u love restricting a human from celebrating an acomplishment?

I agree with you 100%
