| Should the NFL implement college rule overtime? What do you think? |

I always liked the college rule of overtime it made things fair rather than one team get the ball and get close enough for their kicker to make it and thats it.I think it would be awsome for the NFL to get this rule they did get the 2 point why not this. |

My opion with changing rules are: |

no Yes, I think it gives the better team a chance to win not just some high powered offense that got the ball first. YES!! I have always been a believer of this. the team who wins the coin toss which takes no skill whatsoever has a huge advantage and can win the game in just one play or 2 in the case of the Denver and Dallas Turkey day game 2 yrs ago Yes, I 100% think they should send that rule to the NFL. It would make things more even. there are many teams that also could use this because of poor defence, and great offences. The problem with the college overtime is it takes kicking off/punting out of the game. Special teams is a big part of football. I think they need to do an overhaul on both OT systems. Not exactly like the college rules. But let each team try to score in overtime. Just like they do now, just kick it off and let them play. But drop the sudden death part No. It would ruin stats by inflating them. thats the worse mistake the NFL would do the college should adopt nfl overtime rules. Think about it a team starts on the 25 yard line what would a coach more likely to do he would send his kicker to finish the game. I will rather have them toss a coin to find out who gets the ball first kick off as normal they drive from their end to the other end thats fair enough because if you start on the 25 line it could go all night long as much as how thrill it is thats like watching 18 innings of baseball. Just play extra time who ever score first win the game thats fair enough. Absolutely not ! The college OT is just waaaayyy too gimmicky and not a serious way of settling games. Look if the team that does not win the toss and has to kick cannot come up with ONE stop, then they deserve to lose. Why is it that it seems so easy to get into FG range in overtime vs. regulation? OT is fine the way it is. The only other solution would be to play full 15min quarters. No, in fact, college should implement the pro style. Yes. The Problem is that the NFL thinks it is the only level of football that matters. They believe that they set the standards. The last thing that they need is to take a rule created by a lower level, Kansas High Schools. The NCAA got the idea from them and it works. The XFL copied it but made a change to the 20 yard line with no 1st downs and the other team had to score on the same number of downs. Plus since you couldn't kick a PAT you had to go for 1 at the 1 yard line. If anything the NFL will use the NFL Europa's rule of overtime stating that both teams have the opertunity to score, and after both teams score then the game goes to sudden death. Plus the NFL Europa has the 4 point field goal if attempted and made from 50 yards or more. How BORING is it to watch a 35 yard field goal win a game in overtime. The thing is hardly ever blocked or missed, and the defense cant run from greater than a yard from scrimmage and jump to block it, see Leeping in the NFL and NCAA and High School rule book. The NFL Has hurt the game by making them favor offense. How else can you explain Peyton Manning? Helmet to helmet hits, horse collar tackles, and hitting the QB too low or incidental contact with helmet have hurt the defense. These are recent rules that make the passing game easier. Stats in football are irrealevent in the grand scheme of things. Football as a sport is so advanced stratigically that stats only interfere with what is really needed to win, and what has really happened on the field. Sorry all of you armchair qbs that play fantasy football. The real fans are the students of the game, not the fans that want to see a Qb throw for so many yards and yet do not understand why the Left Tackle makes so much money these days. Players don't win games teams and systems being executed properly win games. When you watch football with trained eyes, then you will notice the finite details that make the game really interesting. So yes the NFL should change the overtime rule along with many of its other rules that make passing easy and defenses restricted. The more they give the defense, the more the games will be low scoring and look like the XFL with the exception of the forward motion, bump and run, the ill guided onside punt and the fair catch rule, and the pre game instead of coin toss scramble. I like it the way it is. Defense and kickoff coverage is part of the game, the offense gets 4 quarters to shine and if it can't and must rely on the defense for a drive or two then so be it. Through-out the whole game this is the moment that the defense needs to step up, and if they can't then they will lose. Don't blame the coin. YES BECAUSE THEN IT IS NOT BEING BASED ON WHO WON THE COIN TOSS. wITH ONLY 16 GAMES IN A SEASON ANY GAME LOSSED IS A BIG ONE THE ONLY THING I WOULD CHANGE IS I WOULD MOVE THE BALL BACK There is nothing wrong with sudden death overtime. The team that gets the ball first doesn't get in field goal range as often as many think. If I would change one thing though it would be the visiting would receive the kickoff, and the home team would pick which goal to defend. Do away with the coin toss. That way Morningweg would have his hands tied. |
