Does the "tuck rule" make any sense to anyone?

This rule has been bothering me for awhile. I understand if the pass is released and doesn't get to a receiver, it's incomplete. If the QB drops or loses the ball at any other time it is a fumble. But, how can you differentiate between the QB deciding to tuck the ball and getting ready to throw it, gets grabbed from behind, and his arm continues to come down to appear as if he's tucking the ball?

Anyone else think this rule is ridiculous? It really is hard to distinguish it from a fumble.

It is a stupid rule in my opinion because for one simple reason: The Quarterback never releases the ball, meaning he still has possession of it and if the ball comes loose, it should be a ruled a fumble. It doesn't matter how the the quarterback is moving the ball, he still has possession of it, and if it's knocked loose, it's a fumble.

The ONLY way i can see them defending the rule is this. Because the quarterback is moving his arm forward, naturally the ball would have a forward motion. As long as it gets somewhere in the vicinity of the line of scrimmage, it's an incomplete pass because spiking the ball imp[lies the same concept. But if the quarterback's arm isnt moving forward, then it's considered a backwards pass that is a live ball and considered a fumble.

I still think it's a really dumb rule and if instant replay wasn't so advanced these days, they wouldnt be able to tell the difference 90% of times.

The "tuck rule" has to be the absolute dumbest rule in all of sports. I can't even come-up with a way to defend it.

It makes lots of sense TO PATRIOT FANS!
To the rest of us it is ridiculous.

It is dumb!!!!

umm hi

I think that the rule is outragous!!! Which of course I am a Raiders fan and we all know why I hate this rule. I still think it was a BS call in the game Patriots vs. Raiders. Who can absolutley tell what the QB is doing with the ball? Hell even Tom Brady said that the infamous call should have been a fumble. This is such a touchy subject for Raiders fans. GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!

I personally hate this rule. It makes no sense at all. It's a incomplete pass or it'a a fumble. There should be no gray area there. I.ve seen it call only a couple of times but it's still a stupid rule.
