| Shouldn't the videotape rule be dropped (please read "details" before answering)? |

The thing that drives me crazy about this rule is that coaches have been trying to get this removed from the rulebook for years because, quite honestly, it doesn't make sense. I mean the thing that is rediculous about this rule is the fact that you can't have someone on the sideline taping the other sideline, but it's ok to have someone in a skybox somewhere using a camera and zooming into the coaches on the other team that creates the same vantage point as someone on the sidelines. Or what most coaches do by having an assistant coach writing notes on the other teams signals. It's crazy... those two things aren't illegal, which are the same thing, but for some reason that is. I mean both of those practices serve the same exact purpose. It's alot easier to pick up that someone is trying to figure out your signals when they are on the other sideline blatantly pointing a camera in your face then someone hidden away somewhere in a skybox. I mean... it just doesn't make sense, you can go and record the same exact thing from a skybox or any other part of the stadium on zoom and get the same thing, but not from the sideline... probably why the coaches are trying to rid the rulebook of it because it makes no sense. It's not cheating to do that though... it's breaking a non sensical rule, but not cheating. Cheating is doing something sneaking to gain an unfair advantage. The guy on the sideline was completely obvious and you can put the guy anywhere else in the stadium to get the same exact footage... just kinda counterproductive. |

no. too much money riding on outcomes. best to get it right. |

I agree with you......It works for some sports but not for Football to answer your question unlike the other two. i see your point but the reason why it is allowed in the booth is b/c they are watched and not allowed to relay info about the sideline to their team. those tapes are meant for whole field views to see the best place to find a whole in the def. on the sideline nothing stops them from going into the locker room at the half and studying the signals. but if the other team was smart they would mix up the signials so their is no problem. First off the pictures taken from the sky box are NFL approved first. Second off stealing signals from the sideline won't do you any good during that game. If a team is stupid enough to not mix up their signals from game to game then they deserve to have them stolen. Everyone cheats , if your not cheatin' your not tryin' as they say. The Patriots just took it a little to far, stealing signs live in person has been going on forever. Out right taping them is to far. |
