Is it true that a team playing in the Super Bowl cannot be the host team?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...
Somebody said, 鈥榯hey can't do that.鈥?br> Is this true?
If it is, WHY can't a Super Bowl team be the host city as well.
There are several dome stadiums and warm weather outdoor stadiums.

no, the places are picked out years in advance..

Not True

nobody is the home team. got it.

I do not think this is true---in fact, it cannot be.

Indianapolis will have a new stadium soon, and they are already trying to get the Super Bowl in the new stadium--in a couple of years. So, if it is planned here, and the Colts play------they will be hosting it.

That's not true. They have the Super Bowl's location prepicked before every season. The only way a team can actually be the home team for the superbowl, however, is if they happen to make it the same year that they're picked to host it. I haven't heard of it actually happening but it might have.

Neither are considered the "home" team, because by definition its a neutral site. Thats just semantics, though.

The Super Bowl venues are picked years in advance, theres no way of knowing which teams will be competitive that far down the road. It has just never happened that the city that hosts a Super Bowl also has their home team make it that far yet. Some teams have played in their home city, in different stadiums, though, back when the Super Bowl was played in non-NFL venues.

Besides, what would they tell the team if, say, the Dolphins won the AFC this year? Sorry, you beat all your opponents and won the playoffs, but you're hosting the game, so you forfeit?

Or would they tell the city of Miami sorry, your team's going, we'll have to throw together an alternative Super Bowl somewhere else within two weeks? Logistically, thats impossible.

I think the Superdome in New Orleans is slated to host sometime in the next few years - if the Saints are still contenders, maybe they'll be the first to play a Super Bowl in their actual home stadium.

The Super Bowl is generally played in a neutral site, determined years in advance...It is possible that the home team of the Super Bowl site gets there...That would just be coincidence...

If a team happens to make it when their stadium is hosting the Super Bowl (i.e. if the Dolphins made it this year . . . excuse me, I had to stop laughing so I could keep typing), they would still play at the predesignated site You'd think they'd have an advantage, but most of the tickets are given to the media, friends and family of the players, coaches and the organizations, given as prizes, etc.; so any crowd advantage you might think a team would have playing at home is eliminated by the lack of tickets available to the local folks.
As far as I know, no team has ever played on their home field in the Super Bowl. I guess it helps when you schedule them in places like Miami (sucks), Phoenix (double sucks), Detroit (laughing stock of the sports world), and so on.

no its not true . but a funny fact is that no team thats host the superbowl has ever made it to the superbowl that year. look it up its true. so sorry for Cardinals fans next year NO superbowl Sorry but true

Neither team would be the "host team" but it is possible for one of the two teams to play in their home stadium. It just has never happened.

No it is not true.

Super Bowl cities are announced years in advance. So it is possible that the team hosting the Super Bowl can make it to the playoffs and be in the Super Bowl. Lots of people predicted that Miami Dolphins would make a run for the playoffs this year and be in the Super Bowl, but they didn't make it in the playoffs.

they choose the place long before they know who is going to be in it

Super Bowl stadiums are picked years in advance. If a team happened to make it to the game that their city was hosting that year, so be it.

Since they always have the Superbowl at a cr*ppy teams stadium we will never run into that problem (Miami, New Orleans (when they were) Detroit)

Not true, because you have to WIN in order to get in the super Bowl

Not true. The host of the super bowl is determined way in advance. Hell years in advance if Im correct.
