NFL policy blacks out games for any city within a 90 mile radius of an NFL stadium.

with that in mind, myself, and others here in Canada, have been excluded from watching 4 buffalo games this year.

but you know, i'm not convinced that this is the best way to market their product.

the result of these blackouts is that better games have been televised! instead of watching the Buffalo Jills founder, we have seen priemiere matches in the 1PM EST time slot.

if their goal is to convince canadians that they should get a passport and drive across the border to western new york to watch NFL in person, and to support our so-called "home team", the bills well, this black out is not working..

i'm quite happy to sit at home here in canada and watch such games like NYJ v MIN, and hopefully NE vs JAX, this week, on tv..

anybody else have thoughts on blacking out games. does this really represent what's best for the league's marketing strategy?

rouge: one point scored for a missed field goal that is not returned out of the endzone or one point scored for a punt into the endzone that is not returned. makes the game a little more interesting. rather than being penalized for a good long unreturnable punt (NFL touchback rule) teams can score a point. not a bad concept. and it makes close games more interesting!

The blackout rule should apply only to stations that are located within the 75 mile radius. Not stations that can broadcast into it. also, they should be allowed to play a replay of the game once its over...to allow for fans to see the game. I went to the buffalo miami game and cant go this week...finances and fiances dont allow it....blackout rule should be modified....to an average capacity of all stadiums that is what they should have to sell. The bills sold 71000 tickets to the miami game, and it was blacked out. that is more than some teams in the league..

I think it is ridiculous. If you can afford the time and money to go see a game in person that is what you are going to do. Who the helk if going to say "helk I'll stay home cause I can just watch it on TV"

The blackout policy is only in effect if the game does not sell out within 72 hours of kickoff.

I'm more upset with the policy that if you are in a home team's market, no other game can be shown at the same time as that team's game. For instance, with me living near Chicago, when the Bears' game is on, no other game can be shown (usually on the CBS station, since the Bears are only covered by CBS at most twice a season). So, I'm usually stuck with a crappy 4 ET game on CBS that I really don't want to watch when there were some good ones at 1.

Why does it have to be called a BLACKout? I think in this over-sensative, PC society we live in now, it should be called a "non-transmitted broadcast event restricted to local regions."
