Joe Namath v. Doug Williams?

Food for thought here:
Joe Namath career stats:
Games = 140
Comp = 1886
Att = 3762
% = 50.1
YDs = 27,663
Yds/Att = 7.4
TD = 173
INT = 220

Doug Williams career stats
Games = 88
Comp = 1240
Att = 2507
% = 49.5
YDs = 16998
Yds/Att = 6.8
TD = 100
INT = 93

Joe Namath is in the hall of fame despite his mediocre stats (the 173 TDs to 220 INTs especially stands out) Many say he made the hall based on his one historic win (Super Bowl III, first AFC, formerly AFL team to win the super bowl).
Doug Williams, though he played fewer games has comparable stats. Should he be in the hall based on his one historic win (Super Bowl XVII, first black QB to win the super bowl)? Or should Joe Namath not be there?

SAMHAIN: you're proving my point right there, first AFL team to win the Bowl, that's it really.
Williams, was first (and still only) black QB to win the Super Bowl.
Honestly I don't think Williams should be there, but I don't think Namath should either, Unless we're just counting historic wins.

its hard for some redskins to get in for some reason.example art monk. I think its a prejudice against Washington dc.

Stats are the most mis-leading things to measure a QB by. ESPECIALLY from Namath's era to Williams! Major rule changes at the end of the 70's and into the early 80's helped offenses and especially QB ratings. Danny White's stats were actually better than Roger Staubach's! Do you think he was a better QB? Nice try though. You get an 'A' for trying to spin a mediocre black QB into the Hall Of Fame.

Joe Namath QB'ed the first AFL team to win the Super Bowl. Nuff said.

Joe Namath...... easily

Those were really good stats for back then. So it's kind of like comparing apples and oranges. Passing in 80's was completely different than in the 60's and 70's

your talking about 2 different NFL's....nameths nfl was hard for qbs to do anything...williams is better cause they started stepping in to help the qb out...and ststa dont matter when you are watching them play...have you see joe nameth's highlight reel???? and then compare it to doug williams

I agree with you, neither should be in the hall of fame. But especially Williams. I don't believe awards or recognition be given based on the color of skin. But space at the hall of fame should not be wasted on one superbowl win. Trash them both.
