| Is Quarterback the right position for me? |
|
I am 19 years old, 5'8, 150 and I plan on attending the AFL arena football tryouts in a few years. I would like tryout for Quarterback, I have really no organized experience, I didnt play in school, because I was overweight, but when I graduated I decided to drop about 40 pounds to become more athletic. Everytime I have played games with people, they always tell me that I can throw good. I believe my accuarcy is pretty good, I can throw good off the run from either side, but I cant really sling it. I can throw from 40-45 yards, so I try to make up for it with good precsion throws from 20-25 yards. I have pretty good football IQ to never played organized ball. I can run a 4:93 40 yard dash, a 4:88 shuttle, and a 28 in Vertical, just to give a little more athletic info. I truly love the game, I usually lift 4x week, while working full time. The tryouts dont call for any true experience so I believe this is my only shot to play. I understand that I am undersized, What can I do to improve? |

It's really tough to say. Most people won't give you the time of day because of your size alone. Those are just the tough breaks of the business. I would recommend that you try out the FS position. That might suit your football IQ, physical ability, and size. |

ummm i dont know, c if u havent gotten any experience in full pads, helmets, etc. it might be a bit of a shock to u the first time u get knocked. so i dont know??? hell go for it. yeah you're definitly undersized but if you make the team its on talents and working out with them will give you taht extra work out to gain that weight. plus teams normally have a doctor that can tell you if you should be eating more and eating more of what exactly. hope you make it-itd be pretty sweet if you did. dude just go for it and yes it will feel alot different with pads and a helmet on my advice try to buy your own and get used to them. oo and try to study the rules and regulations of AFL lol I played HS & college ball & thought I was really good until I tried out for LB with the Old Houston Oilers... That is a whole different ball game & at 6' & 195 lbs, I was considered a little guy. However, you never know unless you try. It is much better to try & fail than to never try & wonder if you could've made it. you have an outside chance but i dont give up practice practice practice No First off..put on some pounds (muscle) but stay away from the steroids. Second - can you read a playbook? If you've never read one that will be your number 1 handicap. All the talent in the world is no good if you don't know what the coach wants. Third- Live your dream, you'll never know if you don't try!!! Find a local semi pro team. See if they'll gave you a shot. If not there's always a flag league. |
