When will college Football finally have a playoff championship series?

People keep talking about looking into it. They never do. At the end of the season there is always someone who thinks the #3 or #4 or #5 rated team could beat the Team who won the BCS championship game because they are peaking at this point, or for what ever reason. At that point the BCS officials and the NCAA say they will look into it.They never do! I think a playoff would be great for College football. If they keep this up I will die of old age and never get tosee it happen!

The thing you have to realize about a playoff is that it isn' t up to the Coach but the University Presidents. And they are firmly against it. There was hope this spring when Florida's President said he would be for it. But then at the SEC meeting of Presidents and ADs he changed his mind. It's not a question of money since everyone would make more with a playoff. And there are ways to have a playoff without destroying the current "bowl integrity". I guess the Presidents don't want any distractions from studies.

I agree, I think they should have it. The bs about taking time from studying isn't logically. Look at the baseball or basketball players and how much more games they play each season. Report It

When they figure out to make more money doing it that way.

probably never. i think the NCAA likes all the contraversy

When monkeys fly outa my butt.

IDEA 1: i think that they should do something similar to NCAA baseball, how they have playoffs (super regionals) before the College World Series... try to follow me here

top 8 teams play in 4 Bowl games (thats the way the make their money) 1vs8=Bowl A, 2vs7=Bowl B, 3vs6=Bowl C, and 4vs5=Bowl D

lets just say the top seeded team wins in every game, so they can say they are the "____ Bowl" champions

then those teams go into the "college world series" playoff for the national championship

and its a bracket so Bowl A winner plays Bowl C winner and Bowl B winner plays Bowl D winner

then have a national championship game and a 3rd place game

IDEA 2: Top six teams go into a play off bracket (1 and 2 get a bye) so 3vs5 and 4vs6

again say that top seed always wins so then its 1vs3 and 2vs4 and again top seed wins and move on to championship (1vs2)

then the losers of each round play in bowl games, so 3vs4 and 5vs6

IDEA 3: just move the top 4 teams into a Final Four bracket

Never. there is too much advertising money in how it is.. plus schools get tons of money from the BCS, based on their bowl
it would also add in more games, which the NCAA is very reluctant to do.

Never. The current bowl games are a cash cow. The NCAA isn't going to give up the green for a playoff system.

They already do, at every level but the big boys. But the big boys may never actually get around to doing it because the athletic directors don't want to lose the alleged cash cows that pretend to be the bowl games.

Reality is, if it isn't a top notch bowl game teams can lose money going to them. For example, Northern Illinois goes to a bowl game last year, their payout is $750,000 I believe. But they fail to sell their 10,000 tickets to the game, so they have to buy the difference. Then it costs them more than the whole $750,000 to send the team, the administration, the cheerleaders, the band and whoever else wants to go from the athletic department. It costs them about $150,000 to go to the bowl game. What a windfall!

But it's easy to promote a team the next year when it goes to a bowl game this year. Hey, come watch your Weed-Eater Bowl champs play multi-directional I-AA opponent in our season opener!!!! And it gives fans something to hang their hats on, similar to the smaller schools which make the NCAA basketball tournament.

The reasonable solution is to institute the 16 team playoff system that they have in I-AA (or, as it is now known, the Football Playoff Division). Fine, take a couple of weeks off after the regular season for finals, unlike I-AA, and play from the week before Christmas until mid-January. And you might as well still allow teams 17-60 to play in the Weed-Eater Bowls, so they don't lose their luster to the alumni (kind of like the equivalent of the NIT in basketball).

when my kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, kids, have kids. when hockey becomes relevent
