Who was the best college option quarterback of all time?

Some of you are too young to remember the option. Vince Young would run but not out of the option. Mike Vick never really ran the option. Those are by far the two greatest running QB's but they didn't run the option. My top 5

1 Darian Haggan- Colorado.
He could literally pitch the ball over a crowd off defenders.
2 Tommy Frazier- Nebraska
The greatest at holding the pitch and running
3 Eric Crouch
Was like a third tailback
4. Jamel Holloway-Oklahoma
Was a smooth as silk
5 Donavon McNabb-Syracuse
at 240 he ran the option like butter. In fact he ran something called a counter option. Very diffucult
Honable mention-Marvin Graves, Kordell Stewert, JC Watts ( yes the former politician), and Don McPherson, Roger Staubach, Joe Montana, and Tim Brown when he lined up at QB

charles thompson ct of oklahoma, could have been the best of them all. in speed or pure talent no one was better.
remember his first start against nebraska, i think neb was 2 touchdown favorite...ou won sooner magic, made neb fans crazy, of Field problems ruined his carrier....so sad Report It

vince young or mike vick

Vince Young hands down. He was quick but also smart with the ball. He always knew what to do in quick thinking situations.

Michael Vick, Eric Crouch, Jamelle Holieway or maybe Tommie Frazier

If we're talking a pure option offense, then Nebraska's Tommy Frazier.

If we're talking a hybrid option offense, then Texas' Vince Young.

Eric Crouch. Joe Hamilton and Vince Young get some consideration.

Vince Young was not an option QB, to answer all of these people. He ran a shotgun. The best option QB in college is Frazier. They ran a true option offense at Nebraska.

In my 33yrs of life I have seen a few option QB's. I wish I could have seen more! This is my favorite college option QB and reason why.

Darien Hagan QB University of Colorado National Champions

He was only 5'9 inches, and 185lbs but he could scamper with the fastest of em. He put that program on the map when all we new were Nebraska and Oklahoma in the Big 8. Yes it was still the Big 8 not the Big 12 conference back then. It didnt become the Big 12 until the Southwestern Conference broke p and the 4 Texas Universities joined the mix.

He singlehandedly took that program to the title game, he got hurt but they still won over Notre Dame in the most exciting title game ever played. he also didnt have a future NFL running back next to him either, like Eric Crouch & Tommie Frazier.

Eric Crouch and Tommie Frazier are a close 2nd and 3rd.
Eric gets the nod over Tommie simply because he won the heisman and had some spectacular highlights like that 70 yrd touchdown reception on the option pass play! Halloway gets honorable mention because he was great to at OU, but if Troy Aikman stays at OU, does Jameel Halloway even get any run at QB?

I like how young you all are that you name Vince Young as the best option QB of all time. He wasn't even somewhat an option QB. You have people like in the early 90's Major Harris from West Virgina was awesome, Frazier and Crouch were good, wouldn't say the best though. Tony Rice was really good for Notre Dame in that late 80's early 90's. Maybe I mis spoke because sitting here thinking about who dominated as a pure option QB was probably Frazier, but wow hard question, I only named a few...it's been awhile since anyone ran a pure option. Hagan from Colorado was amazing as well... The three that stick out in my eyes as the best three are Major Harris, Darian Hagan, and Tommy Frazier.

Eric Crouch, Mike Vick, and Vince Young

Tommie Frazier, had the most amazing play i've ever seen... broke like 7 tackles before breaking like a 50-60 yd TD run in the bowl game

Oh, the youngsters who think that Vince Young was an option QB? Or Vick? Yikes.

Option football QBs = Big 8. You could probably take your pick of Nebraska or Oklahoma option QB's from the 70's to 90's. Tommie Frazier is probably your best choice. Not only did he win national titles, but played on a great team. But, like a lot of RB's, you have to remember that he played behind an NFL line at Nebraska, and usually only played two games of value in the season - Oklahoma and the Orange Bowl. But that went both ways - Oklahoma usually only played Nebraska and their bowl game as well.

Darien Hagan at Colorado is probably the best outside of Nebraska or Oklahoma.

Worst option QB's? Whoever Don Morton tried to run the option with at Wisconsin in the 80's. Didn't matter who, the Big Ten wouldn't bite on the option and they got killed.
