|Whats an average 40 yard dash time for...?|
a defensive lineman (DE or DT) in high school grade 10,
I agree with a lot of the previous answers.I know that there is pressure to meet certain physical criteria,It's always been that way.In football it's the 40 yd.dash,basketball-vertical leap,baseball-how fast or hard you can throw.Do any of these things determine how good a player you are?The answer is NO!!!There has been some recent discussion about doing away with a lot of the so called athletic tests. We humans, unless you're using some sort of artificial hormones or stimulants(steroids).Sorry I said the S word!!!,can only run or jump so high.We are this way mainly because of our genetics. As a professional Sports Advisor,I have two little pieces of advice for you .To help with your speed and quickness get with a Speed and Conditioning expert at a health club or gym in your area.Remember you'll still only be able to improve but so much, but they will help improve your footwork and running technique.Learning the proper way to run will give you the explosiveness and power that is looked at by higher level coaches often, even more than speed. If possible find a person that is certified in speed training. The second piece of advice would be to pay as much attention to getting good grades and increasing your GPA.It seems like you may be a serious athlete and the better the grades, the better your chances are to increase and maximize your scholarship options.
Philly Iggles is a lying ***. no 9th grader can run a 4.30 second 40. The fastest time of any player at the 2007 NFL scouting combine was a 4.30 second 40 and those are the best of the best college foot ball players. Report It
DE and Lb should be in the low 5 second range. 5.0-5.2.
WELL, THAT WOULD BE GREAT IF U GOT A 5, BUT I WOULDNT JUST CONSINTRATE ON THAT, I THINK 40 YRD DASHES ARE JUST FOR SHOW
For a highschool lineman, anything between 5 and 5.5 is acceptable since, let's be honest, most high school linemen aren't that athletic. Granted, some DEs may post something lower than a 5, but for the most part it hovers around there.
i agree with julius orange. that generally is the case.
I was linebacker in 9th grade, I got a 4.3 40 time. I have no idea how though. I didn't want to try it again and wind up not being able to repeat it lol. I mean I was one of the faster kids, but for some reason i just destroyed on that one. The average time though I think is a little higher.
4.6.. is an average 40 yard dash?, if you are over 5.0 you need help
DL in 10th HS: 5.1 - 5.4
Most DLs on my team can run between a 5.4 and 5.8. For LBs, the average is probably about 5.2 (our school is 4.8, but we are all really thin).
Probably somewhere between 5 flat an 5.8.
well julius orange's mother can run about a 4.4
