| Several times I've heard people minimize Tom Brady's ablity, saying he's a "system quarterback". What is that |

I don't understand what is meant calling Tom Brady a "system quarterback". Don't all NFL offenses have a system? |
|
They mean, in their opinion, they doubt he'd be as successful, in another franchise, with another coach. That he's only winnable, with Belichick. |

not all teams have a good system It's a system that a QB doesn't have to have much talent, just efficiency. It's kind of like a nerd playing football. Very high % stuff only. Its rantings by people who don't know what they are talking about trying to sound like they do. The Patriots have changed offenses every year for the past three due to the players they have had. Every week the Patriots alter formations and plays against the opponent that they are facing, they did that even more last year. Last year they would line up one week in 5 wide and run and shoot formations and the next be in power sets all game. The only other team in the NFL that does anything similiar to that is the Denver Broncos. It is crap. Those are the same jokers that try to tell you how great Peyton manning is! Brady is teh #1 QB in the league! It is the reason people give to discredit a player they do not like. Most are jealous because there system sucks and ours doesn't. However there is some truth to being a system qb. Take Andre Ware when he was at the University of Houston, great college QB, terrible NFL qb. i agree its stupid he would be great on any team I can see why they'd pose such an argument, but here's how I see it. He's a quarterback who thrives in the system he's in. Reason being, he put up very good numbers with guys like Troy Brown, Jabar Gaffney, Reche Caldwell, etc. He was still one of the top three QB's in football with sub-par talent around him. But the SYSTEM allows players to thrive in it who would be cut during preseason on other teams. But to combat the "system QB" argument, if you put Tom Brady in another offense, I think he'd be just as successful. A system quarterback is a qb that is only really successful in one specific system and would struggle in other systems used in the league. A perfect example of a system qb is Jeff Garcia. Played well in San Fran, Philly , and Tampa because they all run the west coast. Struggled in his other stops Detroit and Cleveland where they didnt run it. |
