| Do most football fans even care what goes into making a great team? |

It seems that most fans just want to state that their team is the best, no matter what the circumstances are. Countless times I see on these boards people stating the Raiders will win it all next yr, the Eagles are Gods, or you can't forget about America's team; the Cowboys. I am just so sick of people not being objective in their views. I am a Skin's fan and know they are not going to the SB anytime soon, and you won't hear me claiming they will. I am so sick of hearing how the Patriots are already submitting their ring sizes....(I would not bet against them, but don't feel they will win it all) I am objecitve and I see the Ravens winning the Super Bowl over the Rams, and I see my loved Redskins going 8-8 and just missing the playoffs. Just tired of everyone chiming in to root for their team without really answering the question that was asked. I got off point a bit. My real point is that fans who answer questions need to sit and think about their ansers before they answer. Don't just whrite an answer that favors your team, write a true objective answer. Don't just say, "Pats rule, no one can beat them". Instead say, "with the addition of Randy Moss, Brady will be able to put the ball wherever he wants, and the defenses will be confused, they will score often". Not just, "Pats rule, can't stop them, Super Bowl, Whew who!? |

I see this sorta thing most with Patriot & Colts fans. The have a legitimate position, but are too simple to add cognitive reasoning to that position. |

The Seahawks are going to win the Super Bowl this year. I know exactly what you mean. These types of people aren't real fans of football. They're fans of a specific team and that's really all. They don't take time to appreciate great athletes on other teams or have a good sports debate. They just constantly claim that their team will always win because they don't really know much about all other aspects of the sport. They mostly use football as a reason to get drunk and so they can feel like they won something even thought they're not on the team. You shouldn't be questioning anyone else's football knowledge if you're picking the Redskins to go 8-8 and the Rams to go to the Super Bowl. I think the great thing about being a fan is believing your team even though they might not be as good as other teams will beat the odds and win the Super Bowl. At the beginning of each season is hope because everyone is 0-0. You can't get mad at fans who are supporting their teams no matter how obnoxious they might be because hey thats what makes sports so great. Remember fan is short for fanatic. There is no reasoning with a true fan. It doesn't matter how much you sense you make you won't change their opinion. I am die hard Pittsburgh Steeler fan and anything less than a Super Bowl is a disappointment. So how can you go into a season, being a true fan, and say your team will not win the whole thing? The greatest thrill for me was rooting for the Steelers in 2006 when nobody gave them a chance as they played every playoff game on the road and they beat the odds. Just because some fans don't say the Steelers are going to win this year because of this and that doesn't mean that they can't root for their team. It's the nature of a fan. Live with it. They do it to get at people like you. As the saying goes, "If you cant beat em, join em." Hell yeah, go Seahawks!! I guess it is somewhat like Jimmy the Greek used to pick Dallas no matter how bad they were doing and how awesome their opponent for that week was. I do agree with you, although I will say that its more than just football. This happens in all sports and even outside of sports. Part of this is clearly because a lot of people don't know the real facts. They hear people on tv or friends talking and they want to jump in. I'm from Mass and am home to I think the capital of mindless hometown devotion. |
