POINT SPREADS
The two most popular ways of expressing odds are point spreads and money lines. Point spread bets are one of the most common sports bets.
Spreads are intended to level the betting playing field between two teams. If the handicappers do their job right and choose the right spread number, there should be an even chance of winning or losing the bet taking into account the spread and a roughly equal number of bettors on both sides of the game. It is a way to even the odds and make things a little more fun.
In a spread bet, the team perceived to have less of a chance of winning will have points added to their score and the team expected to win will have the same number of points subtracted from their score. Those points are known as the point spread, and are sometimes called the line or the price.
Let's say you bet on the team everyone expects to win. Since everyone expects this team to win, it will have points subtracted from it's final score - the spread - to even things up. The team must win by the point spread given at the time you placed your sports bet. If the team you bet on still has a greater number of points than the opponent after the point spread has been subtracted from its final score, your bet is said to have covered the spread and you win.
Point spreads can go up or down at any time depending on various factors like player injuries, weather, and the like. The spread may also be adjusted if the bets coming into the sportsbooks are disproportionately favoring one side or the other. You are generally locked in to whatever the point spread was at the time you placed your sports bet.
When you look at a point spread, you will see one team with a negative number and one team with a positive number. Remember, for sports betting purposes, points are subtracted from the favorite team's final score to determine if the favorite is a winner.
That is why the the favorite team is always listed with a negative number. As you might expect, the reverse is true for the underdog. The underdog team is given a positive number because points are added to the underdog team's final score to determine if the underdog is a winner for purposes of the sports bet. Events that tie are considered "no action" - no one wins or loses. Let's look at an example.
Football is one of the sports that commonly uses spread bets. The Oakland Raiders are playing the New York Jets. The Raiders are expected to win the game and the spread is 6. So, you see the Raiders listed as -6 and the Jets listed as +6. You place a bet on the Raiders. If the Raiders win by more than 6 points, you win the bet. If the Raiders only win by 6 points, then the game is considered "no action" and all money is returned. If the Raiders win by less than 6 points, you lose the bet.
Note that when you place point spread bets, you are generally laying 110 to win 100 (the book needs it's juice).
Try a couple of spread bets and soon point spreads will become second nature. It is a very fun and challenging method of betting.

MONEYLINES
The easiest way to understand a money line, is to think of it as an indication of the amount you need to bet to win $100 (or 100 of whatever currency you are betting in) or the amount you will win if you bet $100.
Money lines are expressed with a negative number, say -110, or a positive number, say +110. A negative money line number indicates what you must wager to win $100, and a positive money line number indicates what you will win if you wager $100.
If you bet $110 on a team with a money line of -110, and they win, you will win $100 (plus return of your original $110 bet). If you bet $100 on a team with a money line of +110, and they win, you will win $110 (plus return of the original $100 bet). Unlike point spread bets, the teams do not have to win by any particular number of points.
Now, you do not have to bet an amount equal to the money line number. You can bet more or less and the payoff simply becomes a proportional amount. For example, if you bet $11 on a money line of -110, and your bet wins, you will win $10. If you bet $50 on a money line of +110, and win, you will win $55.
Money line bets are common in many sports, particularly in NFL football betting. Here, we will look at some examples of money line bets using NFL football games. Example 1 The Oakland Raiders are playing the New York Jets. You want to place a bet on the Raiders who are expected to win the game.
The money line lists the Raiders at -110 and the Jets at +110. You place $110 on the Raiders. If the Raiders win, you win $100 (plus your original $110 bet). If you had bet $100 on the Jets, and they had won, you would win $110 (plus your original $100 bet).
Example 2 In the same example, you place a $55 bet on the Raiders. If the Raiders win, you win $50 (plus your original $55 bet). If you had bet $50 on the Jets, and they had won, you would win $55 (plus your original $50 bet).
Example 3 We'll use the same example but change the money line. The money line now lists the Raiders at -165 and the Jets at +145. You place $165 on the Raiders. If the Raiders win, you win $100 (plus your original $165 bet). If you had bet $100 on the Jets, and they had won, you would win $145 (plus your original $100 bet).
Money lines are not nearly as complicated as they first appear. Place a few bets and they will become second nature

So that means the score is Washington 16.5 New England 0 before the game starts. You bet $110 dollars to win $100. You can also bet with no point spread which means if you put $100 on Washington to win straight up you will be cashing in some doe. I would say you would win around $1500 bucks or more. my advice: dont bet cuz theres no way in hell the Redskins will win If you're betting straight-up without a spread, you're looking at about $1,000-1,150.
If you take Washington to cover the spread, then you're going to win $110-120.

Its all hype started by people who don't like the Patriots and want to see them lose. We all know that the Pats are very good but wouldnt it be great if they lose. Then just maybe the NFL media people can talk about something else. If you bet 100 dollars that the Redskins will beat the Patriots, you will not win anything. You will however give up a 100 dollar bill. believe it or not the skins match up pretty good with the pats defensively. i think the only way to play the pats is you have to be very physical against them. i also think they can't stop the run.now by saying that you will have to make the pats play your game,because if they put up to many points early you won't be able to run anyway.thus making them seem unbeatable. also, did i say a little pressure on the QB might help. he's had time to bake cookies back there.
