What is an effective defensive strategy for containing the option?

I need to know for xbox version NCAA 07, and just general strategies teams use in real life as well. I use alot of double OLB spy, but teams still manhandle me.

Ok, great answers but here are some answers to my troubles, WVU will run the option all game, and Yea, I could bring a safety, but he usually hits the QB and the running back gets the yards. Who else loves this game?

The best way to contain the Option is to make sure your Defensive Ends don鈥檛 crash and, stretch out the field. This will keep the running back from getting into an effective position to receive the pitch and force the Quarterback to keep it and drag it out or take it up field where the Linebackers and Safeties can make the tackle. In NCAA 07 I thing the best way to beat the Option is to take the End on the long side of the field odds and being a corner blitz on the short side this will allow you to be able to force him to take it up field instead of getting around the end and beyond the defense.

I don't know about this game in particular, but the spy is generally trying to pick off a short pass and your OLBs won't be ready for the run. There should be a CONTAIN type play in there for this. The OLBs lurk just outside the line waiting for the run to come around. If you know he's doing it, you should be able to blitz the safety on the side that he does it on, or just control the safety and run him in.

no choice but to but a DB on short cover

corner blitz on the side you think the option is heading for, pick the middle or outside linebacker and tackle the quarterback to force the pitch.

I don't know about that particular game but it sound's like you're on the right track. ( I'M A MADDEN MAN, MYSELF.) Assuming you can control one guy, I'd call plays where I have a corner blitz and then personally control the LB on the opposite side of the blitz a (3-4 allignment... if they offer any with a corner blitz).

you need to put ur DL into contain so they drift with the QB giving ur LB and DB's time to make a play...as soon as u can switch to the person closest to ball and maul the QB so he cannt pitch it...or he atleast takes a hit to rattle him... sometimes if u c a guy about to tackle the Qb take a LB or something and try to jump the pitch...as sooon as u force a huge D play like that most people wont run the option for a while again.

Slow play the pitch, aka string it out. Try playing both the pitch and the QB. In real life it strings out the play and can cause confussion if the QB isn't an agressive runner or doesn't know what he's doing. On the game it'll make the QB pitch early and put you in a position to take the pitch.

Key is not to let the RB get the ball cause usually that's the more gifted runner. If the QB is a runner, then get it out of his hands to the running back and use the safeties for pitch resposibility.

On the game, the 3-4 with OLBs blitzing usually works. the 4-4 or 4-2-5 can also be effective.

not very hard man, all you do is shift your front seven into the strong side and control your free saftey. You dont even need to blitz, when the ball is snapped push him forward to where the qb is, and stand between him and the running back and stay sqaure
