Pac 10 go Oregon Ducks Man i hate to say it but the PAC-10 looks really good, with the SEC and Big East right behind them. I have to Disagree with Kman, It is all about the recovering BigEast this year right now all teams but Syracuse are undefeated! Even South Florida beat Auburn! SEC my behind.. 1. PAC 10
2. SEC
3. BIG 12 Whichever conference produces the National Champ or the whichever conference has the most bowl wins. Southern Conference because ASU gave me one of the best games of football I have ever watched hahaha. we will not know until the season is over with. but the front runners are the Pac-10, SEC, and the Big 12.
the people who said the Big East are really crazy or they are on some kind of medication of some sort, legal or illegal.
i mean the last handful of national champs have come from the 3 conferences i mentioned.
but to answer ur question i would have to say the SEC even though im a Big 12 guy. its really unfair in my eyes that USC year in and year out dont have to play the type of talent that the SEC and the Big 12 face. USC usually has an easy road to a championship while the other conferences knock each other out of contention.
this is why alot of people want a bracket so that the best team can win and come out of it all. SEC Because of Schools like Florida, LSU, Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee. obviously, pac 10 The best teams are based on the overall statistics, wins vs losses, but at this point in the season thats kinda hard to make a complete argument with.
So lets talk about the facts:.
As of the 2nd game this season, WVU is :
7th in the nation in overall offense 526.5 yards per game (LSU is #24 despite what they did to VT, and none of the PAC teams is above WVU)
2nd in the nation rushing the ball with 339 yards per game
(Again, none of the SEC or PAC division teams are near this)
4th in the nation in scoring with an average of 55 points per game, 110 total so far in the season)
Steve Slaton, one of the top Heisman hopefuls this year is tied at #1 in the nation for scoring
Patrick White, another top Heisman candidate at this time has a QB rating of 178.6 and is 25th in the nation scoring
Darius Reynaud is the nations #24th receiver. Not too bad for a team that runs the ball.
As for Conference facts well, lets see:
The Big East has 7 of 8 teams undefeated (The nations highest number of winning teams by percentage)
The ACC has 4 of 12 undefeated (25 %, ouch)
The Big 12 has 7 of 12 still undefeated (Third best)
The Big 10 has 8 out of 11 unbeaten teams (thats the nations 2nd best conference by % of wins, SECOND BEST)
The Pac 10 comes in with 6 of its 10 teams undefeated
The WAC, just to mention them out of fairness has 1 undefeated team remaining out of 9
And folks, the SEC is at 50%, with only 6 of its twelve teams still undefeated after only the second game of the season.
Southern Cal is tied in a pile up at #24 as far as points per game
Cal is tied with Rutgers ( a Big East team) at #20 for most points per game
Connecticut is at #18 on the point per game chart (yet another Big East team, see the pattern here)
Cincinatti is tied with LSU at #11 in points per game (TIED with LSU, SEC fans should be a little humbled indeed, and once again, another a Big East team).
And Louivsille is the number one scoring team in the nation, with 63.5 points scored per game (I'll just let you guess what conference they are in)
So at least statistically speaking, which is what counts in the end, the best conference in the nation is the BIG EAST, at this point in the season.
Dang, you know the more I look the more I learn, so heres another juicy factoid I just found : With USF's victory at Auburn, the Big East has won six consecutive games against SEC teams
All those stats came from Rivals.com and were valid as of 7 am on September the 13, 2007.
I had to add this after Saturdays games. Hey SEC fans, Mississppi State ? AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA. At least Appy State is it's divisions defending National Champs.
And then there was #11, UCLA, OMFG 38 points ? You lost to Utah by 38 points ???
But to be fair, it looks like Louisville (one of my Big East teams) is gonna get taken out by a very suprisingly good Kentucky !! And Pitt lost to a decent looking Michingan State already. Of course, Connecticut won again, which is kinda suprising , and Cincinnati had a nice win.
Still, I'm a WVU alum, so those loses don't hurt my feeling all that much.
All of the above facts have changed now that week three is almost over, so I guess we all have to stay tuned til the end of the season (but thats just like always) and see which conference continues to advance. Probably the best way to determine this question is a combination of the following:
1)What conference sends the most teams to a bowl.
2)Which conferences bowl teams have the most cumulative bowl wins.
3)Who plays for the BCS title.
4)Who wins the BCS title.
5)If a tiebreaker is required, then go to team stats.
I think things like the Heisman and Bednarik awards are more accomplishments of a team and even moreso the winning individuals than confererence accomplishments.
I think maybe we all love this sport so much, because there is always that chance, that risk, that possibility that our team will go undefeated, or during a bad year at least rise up to win an unexpected victory against a major rival or opponent. No to mention so many great plays by so many different teams across the U.S.
Can't wait for week 4!!!! Understand that this comes from a UCLA student...
If I HAD to rank the conferences top to bottom this year, I would put the SEC on top. They have several good teams, and a few superb ones. That said, the SEC is not that far superior to everyone else, as much as their fans would blindly like to believe. Judging on performances so far, the Pac 10 is a close second, and the Big East is not far behind as third. The Big 12 has two very good teams, Texas and Oklahoma, but also a lot of subpar teams. The same is true for the ACC. Sadly, the Big 10 is experiencing a down period, which should be obvious to mostly everyone.
Then again, we've only seen two weeks of football. By the end, this could all change. That's what makes college football so great. We'll have to wait and see... PAC-10 BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bears BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
Go CAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
EZ 2POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... The Big Ten.... JUST KIDDING!
I think the PAC-10 is better than normal but the SEC probably takes the prize. They are always so good from top to bottom. The Big East, Who wint 5-0 in its bowl games last year, Including WVU beating GT, LU beatin WAKE SEC, No one and I mean no one can keep up with the speed the SEC has.
