Has LSU vs USC become college football's version of the Cold War?

Considering the schools haven't played each other in over two decades, I find it amusing there is so much hate between them.

I think the split pretty much pissed off both sides.

You're definitely right about most SEC fans though. I don't think some even acknowledge that the Big 10 and Pac 10 exist LOL.

I really think its the LSU fans complete resentment that the AP voted USC #1...it cracks me up how some LSU fans will get so mad at USC fans for claiming that title in 2003...im sure if it was reversed LSU fans would also claim it. and its not as if USC fans are making something up. fact of the matter is that LSU was the BCS champ and USC was the AP champ. yes the BCS bowl victory supersedes the AP vote, but its still a recognizable poll. i would be bitter if i was an LSU fan. it has to be very frustrating to win the championship but always have that asterisk behind it because it wasnt unanimous. LSU and USC will forever be tied together for that year and LSU hadnt won a championship in 50 years before 2003 so of course they want it all to themselves. i would too.

its going to be very interesting to see how people react if the two do play this year for the title. who ever wins will be the 2008 champ and only the 2008 champ. yet something tells me fans of the winner (regardless who wins) will then claim that team is also the unanimous 2003 winner. which would make no sense. but i wont be surprised to see it happen.

what did i tell ya...its already begun...

I don't think it is just LSU but the entire college nation except the PAC-10 against low-class USC. I like your imagery in that USC reminds me of Communist Russia.

I could be wrong but It seems to bother LSU fans more. As a fan I moved past it a long time ago. The championship was split it wasn't the first time that happened and I will bet it happens again.

Many of the SEC fans in general just don't seem to respect non-sec teams.

yeah for no reason no gurantee either team will make it through undefeated LSU has a better Chance with all their tough games being played at home this year. There is no hate just a stupid comment from there head coach who truthfully has no class. Sec has the Mississippi schools, Auburn very very weak, Kentucky year in year out is terrible as is Vandy, Georgia is down, Tennesee is down, Arkansas is always overrated, who knows how good the Crimson Tide are. The Pac 10 have AZ, Washington, and Stanford so let just say both conferences have crappy teams, but both have some really good teams, watch out for Oregon they are better than people think.

Im gonna go with Bruce LSU fans are upset because of the split national championship a couple years ago. "USC" has been a powerhouse for the last 5 or 6 years and LSU has shown some signs of greatness during those time but have never been as good as USC. Then with Saban leaving the LSU fans have been mad for a while now. USC has stars in the league who go to the NFL and produce once they get there. The only LSU player i can think of doing really big things right now in the pros is Joseph Addai.

well we will just have to wait and see if both teams face each other for the National Championship.

well some hate could come from when they shared the national title and didnt play eachother

some could come from the sec vs the pac 10 since they are often see as the 2 power houses in their conferences...and their is a lot of out of conference hate

and as a side note landary has looked good in both games :)

lol

yeah it is funny, and I have a feeling this is going to be another year that the 2 teams enfd up jawing at each other but they probably won't play.

I can tell you that out here in L.A. everyone respects LSU but the Tigers are just another team on the hunt and no more or less important than any of the other teams in the top 10. I don't suppose they have too much to do in Baton Rouge other than worry about whether the big bad Trojans are stealing their #1 ranking -- again -- but in L.A. its no biggie.

(Frankly, if I were an LSU fan I'd be ALOT more worried about Florida than USC at this point.)

If it was LSU-USC in the championship game that'd be great -- but then again, isn't the championship game in New Orleans this year? That'd be good for LSU but for USC (or anyone else) not so much!

College football fans don't appear to be quibbling much over who the nation's top two NCAA clubs are.

The gambling specific BGS Power Ratings list LSU as the nations top college football team, followed by Oklahoma in second with USC 3rd & Florida 4th.

Professional Handicappers League members Jerry Johnson and Jimmy Boyd totally concur with the Associated Press' current opinion poll that has Southern Cal on top, followed by LSU.

AP has defending national champion Florida in third, slightly ahead of Oklahoma.

Boyd would reverse that, while Johnson chacterizes third and fourth as a coin flip.

The Las Vegas Hilton has USC and LSU at 9/5 and 5/1 respectively to win the 2008 BCS Championship Jan. 8 in New Orleans.

The Trojans are just 2-0 while the Tigers, Sooners and Gators are 3-0.

"USC still has to be the favorite to win the title," said Boyd, who trails only George Smeader in the PHL's overall standings.

"They have offensive balance and, in my opinion, the premier defense in the country.

"LSU is my No. 2.

"They embarrassed Virginia Tech (48-7) and if they embarrass South Carolina this week, they'll be making even more believers out of people.

"Oklahoma is right on USC's toes, but they haven't played the same caliber of non-conference opponents.

"Miami is not the usual Miami, so I don't give as much weight to that (51-13) blowout."

Johnson lives in Omaha and was in Lincoln last weekend for Southern Cal's 49-31 triumph over then No. 14 Nebraska.

"USC is very, very good," Johnson said.

""They're even bigger and faster when you see them in person.

"It was pretty clear Nebraska couldn't keep up."

Johnson likes the Sooners and Tigers for the same reason: solid defenses.

"This could be (Oklahoma Coach Bob) Stoops' best defensive team," he said.

"LSU also has a very strong defense."

Aside from the fact Florida has "been there, done that," Johnson is impressed with the way Gator players hold Coach Urban Meyer in such high regard.

"They play their hearts out for this guy," he said

Florida meets Mississippi this week as -23 point chalk.

The "Big Four" are laying double-digit lumber: OU is giving 20 points to in-state rival Tulsa, Washington State is getting 27 from USC, LSU is giving 16 to South Carolina.

No. USC is the best football team ever

USC vs Colts

That is what i would like to see. Not a weak team LSU

Fight ON!! Fight On!! Fight On to Victory!!
