| On LSU's fake field goal today, the holder had the ball with his knee on the ground. He was down, right? |
|
Kevin is wrong because the guy with the ball isn't a holder after they abandon the kick attempt. |

As a football official, the play should have been ruled dead. Yes, the holder can have his knee on the ground. But, in order to pass, hand-off, flip, whatever, he has to rise off the ground in order to do so. |

Good point,, I guess not. Otherwise every field goal would never count. No, of course not, have you never seen a fake kick before? The kick holder is an exception to the knee-down rule, specifically so that he has the option to run, throw, or lateral the ball on a trick play or bad snap. No, the holder is not down until he is touched. calfan is right. your not down until someone from the other team has made contact with you. On a field goal that is legal, because even when you kick it his knee is down, so maybe the kick shouldn't count too right? |
