| Has this ever happened before? (LSU vs Va Tech)? |

I read in the article from the game that LSU's band played the Virginia Tech Alma Mater instead of their own before the game started. |

Never heard of that type of sportsmanship on or off the field. I was impressed with the LSU fans I saw while tailgating yesterday. I hate that a few obnoxious asses can spoil a school's reputation. I was specifically watching LSU & VT fans and I saw two opposing fans eating, drinking, playing games, and talking. The only thing that I consider "class-less" is the chanting of TIGERBAIT!!! At the opposing teams. I understand it is all in good spirit and it usually ends with chanters inviting the opposing fans to tailgate with them and share whatever they have. I work for an AU grade in New Orleans and we always talk about SEC football. Recently he informed me that most SEC fans regard LSU or Fla as the worst. It disturbed me because I think LSU fans are the best. Baton Rouge on a Saturday night can be the best place in the world. I can not stand rude and obnoxouis behaviour. School pride is great but should not be used to justify poor sportsmanship. When fans do this they dishonor their school, team, and themselves! |

haha, no, its never happened before. But it was nice, I thought. It showed respect. It might have been classy, or it might have been psyche, but either way, LSU beat our butts. not in the over 100 year history of the golden band from tigerland has lsu band ever played another school's tune. vt underwent incredible heartache and lsu recognizes that with absolute class. what a great game. go tigers. It was a classy thing to do for sure. But considering LSU's defense and the shutout of Mississippi St that LSU was coming off of, perhaps they also figured that if the LSU band didn't play the Virginia Tech Alma Mater, nobody was going to all night. Had to give the traveling visitors at least one song for sure :). It was a class thing to do and because of this act I am not even going to comment on the game. LSU earned my respect not just because of their team's success but because in a time when schools rarely show any compassion for an advisery, they showed that it's not always just about the game. it was a wonderful thing to do, lsu knows what its like to go through tragedy and they were returning the favor for the help that some of the vt students gave after katrina, i also think they let them have that one touchdown If LSU really cared about that lousy VT team, they would have spotted them a few T.D.'s!
