| So with App. State beatingNO.5 Michigan;Do u think App. State deserves to be in Division 1 football league? |

Now that's the FIRST intelligent question I have heard in the analysis of today鈥檚 game between Michigan and ASU. In short, YES... ASU belongs in Div. I.... because they are (as well as have been) playing at the level of Div. I. This was no fluke... they are legitimate. It's a disappointment having to listen to uneducated people make statements that lack intelligence. Ladies and Gents...give ASU a little F%$#ing Respect... yes, this was an upset... but not at all the magnitude which the media is making it out to be. What makes this a perfect storm for Michigan is that it really is a very very S-L-O-W news day in college football... whoever the person is that posted this question: hats off to you because you are thinking criticaly. |

I think this means Michigan probably shouldn't be a Division 1 team any more! They aren't the two-time defending AA champs for nothing. It's an amazing win, and they're track record shows they should be. They have won 15 straight games, tied with Boise State for longest in the nation, and two Nation Championships in I-AA. They go into a Michigan, the winningest football program in college history, and upset them. They outplayed them the entire game, and went into one of the most daunting stadiums that was filled to capacity on Opening Day with 107,000 people. A ton of credit to App. State. That just won't happen. The system is so political that their chances are pretty slim of moving up. But Kudos to them. They are very dominant in their division. I am from Michigan, but get tired of people being so sure that they can call who will win these games before they are played. It is almost like it is rigged. It is nice to see a good upset now and then. Appalachian State does play in diision I for all sports and has for many years. I think you probably mean do they belong in the FBS segment in division I for football instead of the FCS segment in division I football (these two sub-classifications were formerly designated as Division I-A and I-AA). The only division I sport that has two sub-divisions is football. All other sports played at all division I schools are just plain "division I". the difference in D1 and 1 AA isn't about who and how many people you beat it's about money that you program has to compete at the highest level. Appy State has always had a great football program under Coach Moore they just don't have the finances to compete at the D 1 level. A perfect example is UConn and Buffalo they are two schools that 7 years ago were 1-AA schools but they had the money to move up so they made the jump. At least UConn has a good basketball team, Buffalo doesn't have any sport that is good. Lets see what kind of year Michigan has before we decide this. The NCAA just recently said "no more I-A teams" so it's not going to happen, but Appy St definately should have been chosen over Buffalo and some of the other horrible teams that were allowed to make the jump. |
