Ohio State #1?

Come on. I can't believe, with that schedule, these guys are in the top 10.

I'm a UW fan, and know my team stinks. But from the schedule, it looks as though the UW is one of their 'tough' games.

I have to think BC and OSU are both praying they don't have to play the SEC or Pac-10 in a bowl game.

Who do you think is the 'real' #1 right now? I've not been a fan, but have to say LSU looks pretty impressive. They've played 5 ranked teams, beating 4. OSU's played one, Purdue. How, exactly, did Purdue find itself ranked?

I missed Purdue 'playing' Toledo, E. Illinois and W Michigan - and...ND? I can't believe you're using THEIR schedule as an argument.

OSU's ONLY argument is...umm...(give me a few minutes, I'll come up with something...)

Does anyone else get a headache while trying to figure out the BCS?

I give up..

You know what it doesn't matter now, it matters at the end of the season.

OSU wins and LSU didn't win despite being a better team.

its called the media blitz and the bcs system is screwy this year has proven it dont work , need a playoff, ohio better enjoy the gift they got cause its coming to an end

I think in the end you will see LSU, Missouri, WVU, USC, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech (not in that order) all fighting for the top.

I think Ohio State will schedule William & Mary next year in hopes that William is declared acedemically ineligible. If Ohio State is number one because they haven't lost then they should be tied with Kansas, Arizona State, Hawaii, and Boston College. If Ohio State or Boston College do make it to the NC against LSU they will be creamed.

I think the difference should be quality wins instead of quantity wins.

they haven't lost any games, what do you want? They shouldn't be in the top 10 are you serious? I understand with their strenght of schedule they shouldn't be #1 unless they win out, but they should be in the top 10.

How did Purdue find it self ranked? Do you even watch football? Here is how they started the season.

Sat, Sep 1 at Toledo W 52-24
Sat, Sep 8 Eastern Illinois W 52-6
Sat, Sep 15 Central Michigan W 45-22
Sat, Sep 22 at Minnesota W 45-31
Sat, Sep 29 Notre Dame W 33-19

sure not great teams but 227 points in their first 5 games.

The real number 1 is LSU. No doubt about it. How many teams can face such opponents and NOT come away without a loss? No one. No other team in the nation could handle LSU's schedule. The only problem is that losses are huge in the computers. Voters feel that Ohio State, no matter how WEAK their schedule is, should be rewarded for going undefeated. But that's a crock. They SHOULD be undefeated with such a schedule. It wouldn't be sane if they had a loss. So, for me, that argument is completely stupid. In fact, we have no idea how good the Buckeyes really are. We won't know until the next few weeks, in which they'll face Penn State, who I think will beat the Buckeyes and set the world straight for the first time since pre-season.

I think they need to play some one and I think they put Penn State in the Top 25 not because of their win over INDIANA but so, if Ohio State beats Penn State, then they will have a good reason to be No.1. But I still think LSU is the best team in the nation. (that is next to Kentucky)

Being a "better" team on paper doesn't mean s**t . Just look at whats happened this year with the so called upsets , when teams of so called nobodies beat the highly ranked teams .
I love it when a team with "heart" beats one of the "big boys".
So don't get too excited about the Pac-10 or SEC and their records .
That's what makes football such a great game , anything can happen .

Whatever! The TRUTH WILL COME OUT IN THE WASH!!! Ohio State has a HUGE fan base and would generate as good deal of $$$ at an NC game, but I really don't think they will make it that far. And if they do, their fans will spend all that $$$ while watching them get beat. LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon, or W VA. would handle OSU with ease and BC, KU, & ASU would give them a run for their $$$ no doubt. I hope that LSU gets a chance to play, They look the most impressive in the current top 5. LSU vs. OU would be a great game to watch, even though I can't stand either one of those teams.

the only thing is though OSU wins the games they should win, the other teams dont. And the Pac 10 looked good early on but now, who do you think is a elite team in that conference? USC lost to a team that may as well be 1-AA in Stanford, Cal keeps losing, Washington is gimmicky, Oregon seems good though, but its hard to say right now. And yes the SEC is good, but people forget that they have way more teams in their conference than the big 10, i will give you Florida, South Carolina, LSU and Kentucky are great clubs. I am saying though that OSU's Defense could handle any of those teams offense (well maybe not florida, lol) But if they dont lose and win gamse soundly, leave them alone. If they go 12-0 they deserve it.

and Calill C, OSU is playing USC and Georgia next year. Not W & M

No long explanation needed, really. It is this week's rankings and their tougher games are coming up, starting this week. I think LSU is the real number 1, although I have reservations, since I believe Florida will beat them in the SEC Championship game, not making them number 1. But, do i think Florida is number one? No. Not at all. It's a game of matchups. LSU can beat most of the teams in college football, so they are the true number one team in my book. But, Ohio State has earned it so far with a big fat zero in the loss column. There is no number 1 this year. Imagine a candidate from every football team standing on top of a hill. A gunmen shoots all but two of them. Those two teams fight it out and one of them lives. That team is "number 1". That is how this season is going, and that is most likely how it will end.

I guess it was kind of a long explanation...

Reasons why OSU should be number one. in the years 2005 2006 2007 they lost three games, two to teams that finished the season ranked number 1, and one that finished a lowly 3rd in the country.
They can only control who they play so much. When they scheduled UW, they were the pac ten champs, and only a few years removed from a national championship. It's not the buckeyes fault you guys forgot how to win.
This year their defense has the top linebacker and the top corner back in the country(according to rivals), and the first team defense has given up less than 35 points all year.
The only knock on OSU other than schedule, (which all they can do is win, they can't control who they play. For the record, the last two seasons they played texas, the next two they play USC and in the seasons after that Oklahoma and Miami, hardly ducking good teams non conference. As for conference shedule, the big ten has a winning record over the SEC in bowl ganes the last 5 years. They are a little down this year, but they replaced 5 coaches in the last 2 years, 2 because of death. There is no reason to think the big ten wont be back to their old winning ways.) and the NC game last year.
Last year they went against a very good florida team, with a great coach. On defense, they were mostly freshman and sophmores, with their best safety out because of an injury. The coaches were afraid to blitz, and a 4 year starter(and florida record holder, which should say something) picked them apart. Hardly suprising. On offense, they lost their best player on the first play of the game. The OSU offense was pretty simple, Ginn would run a designed route, and if the defense didn't focus on him, Smith would throw him the ball. If the defense did focus on him, the other receivers would find a soft spot, and he would get them the ball. Ginn was almost always the first read. When he went down, the offense was out of their comfort zone, and choked under the bright lights. I am not taking anything away from Florida, they were a great team and deserving of the national championship, just explaining why the game got away from them.
They are a better team than last year, and a better team than in 2002 when no one gave them a chance against Miami, and came out the winner.
That is why OSU would be my number 1 team. LSU would have been, but they lost, and didn't look all that impressive in beating Auburn(which lost to USF.) USF was then my number 1, but they lost to Rutgers. BC could jump OSU on my ballot if they win over Vtech. It will be the first time I watch them play all year. ASU might be better, I have yet to see them play. In fact, I haven't watched them play since the 1997 rose bowl. Kansas I have seen a few plays here and there, and they don't look like they have the team speed. Maybe they are the best, but I doubt it.

Well, I can list some teams who don't deserve to be #1:
LSU
USC
Oklahoma
Oregon
West Virginia
Florida
Every other team who's lost a game

All you whining and crying little babies who think your team should be number one seem to forget one thing: You can't LOSE and expect to be #1. If you people had your way, your favorite team would be #1 even if they went 0-12 but looked good on paper. If the Buckeyes lose and don't go down you may have a point, but until then NOBODY with a loss 'deserves' to be #1.

BTW, LSU does NOT look that good. They could just as easily have 3 losses this year as one, so don't even pretend they're blowing everyone away. They look like they're a 'little bit' better than MOST of the teams they play, and still have a loss. They don't deserve #1, get over it.
