why would their stadium be a buckeye? A stadium in that shape wouldn't even be possible.

When the stadium was built (back in the twenties) and it was designed in the shape of a "U" (which people just started calling the "Horse Shoe"). Since then they have added additional seating (as a straight line across to fill in the U) but OSU fans are big in to their history, so the name "Horse Shoe" was not going away.

Some interesting facts about the stadium:

When it was built, people doubted they would ever fill the stadium (every game now sells out)

Originally there were no women's restrooms (because only the men attended back then)

They just added lights in the last 10 years. (The Buckeyes have only lost 1 home game at night and it was to Texas last year)
