emphisis on pound for pound! im talking about the actual school, town and gametime atmosphere. once again pound for pound, its easy to say michigan, penn state or tennessee with 100k+ fans in the stands, 50k+ students and national tv coverage but does that compare with 60k screaming at hawaii with no or minimal tv coverage, thousands of miles from the nearest school, little local recruit base and a school with 20k students? no! i have been to over 50 different stadiums and games across divisions and i have to say pound for pound, fan for fan, student for student, citizen for citizen i believe that best college football atmoshere is........ the univesity of montana!( im an east coast guy that didnt go to montana or was born in montana) when you consider the school has 12k students the town has 60k and the state has right at a million people, you will be blown away by the way that program is embraced by the people of western montana! j-dub while i respect ou and see where your coming from, 30k students, national tv coverage, national fan base, consistant heisman canidates and winners sort of stacks the odd in their favor and pound for pound weakens them in this context. in this context only! |

You need to go to Norman and visit the Sooner nation on game day. I am a U.S.C. Trojan fan , but I believe Alabama Crimson Tide has to be one of the best. But I think Boise St. with the Blue field has a atmosphere that is is loud and growing. Also The Oregon St. Beavers have a loud crowd and the fans are right on top of the field. It is always fun when the Trojans and Beavers get together. Ha Ha Bad joke . Fun question Accept no substitutes, Tiger Stadium (aka Death Valley) on a Saturday night with 94,000 screaming, highly intoxicated, insane, LSU fans, is the best atmosphere in college football. I have been to the Swamp and Rocky Top, awesome, but Tiger Stadium gets my vote. Ask the Hokie faithful in a little over a month what they think of an 8:30 pm game in Death Valley. I dhave to say any hometown... For me i'd say Univ. of Maryland hands down you love the people, love the teams, and root for your team. I mean it may get louder in Tennessee or Michigan or the swamp and death valley, but home is home i'd never trade being at a Terp game for going to any other place, bucuz home is home and crabcakes and football are good with me. Not in any order, but basically Florida and LSU... TEXAS LONGHORNS! National Powerhouse, Great Tradition, Great Students! Huge Stadium...oh and were home to the BIGGEST JUMBO TRON in sports! Well, I'm a Gator fan and I think that they have the best college atmosphere of any Division 1A team. They get virtually no respect outside of the southeast, and the fans are always with the team (maybe not the coach) through thick and thin. Memorial Sadium, Lincoln Nebraska!!!! The SEA of RED! On gameday Memorial Stadium, Tom Osborne Field becomes the 3rd most populated city in the state! The Huskers are all the people of Nebraska live and die for... And they are good fans to the opposing teams!! Very good sportsmanship! The pre-game atmosphere is amazing all week long!! the real death valley, in clemson sc. pound per pound is the best. accecpt no substitutes night time in Death Valley, 86,000 fans, The whole town is centered around clemson (tigertown) Clemson, SC Virginia Tech in Lane Stadium. I agree with LSU Balls in that Tiger Stadium is a special place to play on Saturday night. Practically the entire campus is one big tail-gate party for both home and visiting fans. The stadium is an engineering marvel in that the noise from the fans hits the field of play with more force than most stadiums. First time visiting coaches are amazed at how loud the crowd is. Ga Tech, Bobby Dodd stadium when we play UGA. Yes its a small stadium (seats around 55,000) but its in the heart of downtown atlanta and the rivalry is so good. Everyone, from drunk college kids to old men who graduated 60 years ago to little kids barely walking, is into the game. Then you add the bands to the mix at halftime and it is a crazy fun atmoshpere. Nothin like that while still being in the heart of downtown I gotta go with Neyland Stadium and the Tennessee Volunteers. The entire city shuts itself off for a Vols game. The stadium itself holds a city's worth of people (109,000!!!!). The band is second to none. The place is insanely loud. The Vol Navy, tailgating....damn, I could go on and on. Kyle Field in College Station, TX. Nothing compares to the entire stadium shaking as the student body sways to the Aggie War Hymn. "Saw varsity's horns off....." |
