Can someone explain all the USC, SEC, gators etc to me?

Im really interested in getting into college football, but who are the gators SEC, USC etc.? I know the University of SOuth California, but why so much College talk is it nearly the final or something?
And if USC is Southern Cali then whats the Uniersity of south carolina called?

I see you are into punishment (Bills fan)... so if you want to get into the college scene then look up the Notre Dame Fightin' Irish. It is a great storied program having by far its worse year at 1-9. No one will ever be able to call you a band wagoner if you jump on right now. Hopefully that won't be said 2 years from now.

Notre Dame has by far the largest fan base and is also hated by more people than any other school. I'll provide proof of the second statement here in a few minutes.

Florida plays in the conference SEC )South Eastern Conference. USC is the University of Southern California they are the Trojans. The University of South Carolina is call the Gamecocks. And Florida is the team that could have made it to the National title game but choked (more than once) and USC also is always in the spotlight too, so you hear about them more often. Just not in playing for the National Title.

southern Cal, South Carolina, Gators are all sorryass schools

U of South Carolina is USC also, just have to designate which one when you use them if any question.. S Cal has the better tradition and history so is usually the default.
SEC = South Eastern Conference. The conference comprised of 12 teams in the SE states.
gators is the nickname of University of Florida, last years National Champions in football and basketball. Both by virtue of wins over OSU (Ohio State University)

OSU also = Oregon State or Oklahoma state. but again when used in space with out context is usually taken as Ohio State

The gators are the Florida Gators, they play in the SEC (South Eastern Conference) South Carolina is also USC. It is near the end of the season for some conferences, but some still have a handful of games left to play.

SEC is Sorry Excuse for a Conference. They are so very overrated. Gators are the most overrated. Players are so dumb they don't know where England is in relation to Florida or what language is spoken there. Ask an ex-Gator who plays for the Dolphins.

South Carolina is also known as USC..... Just like OSU can be Ohio State University, or Oklahoma State Univ.

SEC stands for Southeastern Conference.

Heres the best way to break it down... Each team is listed under each conference.

I can't tell how sincere you are but,
Yes USC is Southern Cal
South Carolina is just - SC
Gators are the National Champions-Florida
and the South Eastern Conference is argueable the best conference.
It may not be but you couldn't convince SEC fans of that.
I've seen football break up marriages.
My grandmother even had a stroke during a football game.
(Tennessee/Alabama)

USC Is University Of Southern California..It always has been their Name. Their mascot is The Trojans..South Carolina is just called University Of South Carolina or SC..Don't know what their mascot is..A University In Florida has a mascot of a gator..So they are called the Florida Gators..SEC is a division in college football..hope some of those answers help you...GOOOO TROJANS!!

Just watch the LSU Tigers or any other team from the SEC so you can learn football. The others are insignificant.

yeah, it's confusing, isn't it?

USC normally Southern Cal Trojans. when South Carolina is on, they'd use SC instead of USC mostly. I have seen USC for South Caroline Gamecocks on TV before. But it is not as confused as OSU. people would usually assume OSU is Ohio State Buckeyes cuz it has the biggest student population in the country. Oklahoma State Cowboys and Oregon State Beavers are also OSUs. Two years ago when Ohio State was facing Oklahoma State in the bowl game. TV channels were so stupid to put up the scoreboard with both as OSU, so you couldn't tell until someone scored.

Gators are University of Florida.

SEC = SouthEastern Conference
You can find all the conferences from the link.

The football regular season ends usually the end of Nov or early Dec depending on the school. Bowl games start around 12/20, the championship is on 1/7/2008 for this post-season.
